Frequently asked questions
Everything you might want to know before trusting WellAlert with your check-ins. Still curious? We're happy to help.
Getting started
What is WellAlert?
WellAlert is a personal safety net for people who live alone, travel solo, or just want backup. You schedule a check-in using an alarm or reminder and confirm you're safe when prompted. If a protected check-in passes without a response, WellAlert can alert selected Care Circle contacts by push notification and in-app alert. Location is included only when you choose to share it.
There are no wearables and no monitoring center. Your phone and your people are enough.
How do check-in alarms work?
On a supported iOS 26+ device, schedule repeatable alarms around your routine. Each alarm has a response window. When it rings, confirm you're okay before the window ends. A cloud-protected alarm can alert your selected contacts if you do not respond; a device-only alarm never contacts anyone.
What is a Safety Backed reminder?
A reminder is a quieter, one-time check-in available on iOS 17 and later. It can show a silent banner or play a sound. When Safety Backup is enabled, your selected contacts can be alerted if you do not clear the reminder before its grace window ends. Device-only reminders are unlimited and never alert contacts.
Why don't I see alarms on my device?
Check-in alarms require iOS 26 or later and a device that supports AlarmKit. WellAlert shows reminders instead on iOS 17 through iOS 25. Alarms created on a supported device remain preserved in your account, but they will not ring on an unsupported device. A previously armed cloud backup may still alert contacts, so manage those alarms from a supported device.
Can I test it before relying on it?
Yes, and you should. WellAlert's test alert previews the alert experience and checks local notification setup without triggering a real escalation. Also confirm directly with your contacts that they accepted your request and have notifications enabled. We recommend testing periodically.
Is there an age requirement?
Yes. You must be at least 13 to use WellAlert. If you are under the age of majority in your region, a parent or legal guardian must agree to the Terms on your behalf. See our Terms & Conditions for details.
Does WellAlert have an Apple Watch app?
Yes. The companion Watch app lets you check in, see Care Circle status, and ask a selected contact for help without reaching for your phone. Check-in, Care Circle, and Ask for Help complications provide quick access from supported watch faces.
Contacts & alerts
Do my emergency contacts need the app?
Yes, to receive alerts. If someone you add isn't on WellAlert yet, we send them an email invite to install it. Once they install it and accept your contact request, they get push notifications and in-app alerts, and, if you share it, your wellness status and location on a map.
What happens when I miss a check-in?
When a protected check-in's response window closes without a response, WellAlert can notify the contacts you selected with your status, the time of the missed check-in, and, if you've enabled sharing, your last known location. You can cancel the escalation by checking in late, and WellAlert tells your contacts you're okay.
What if my phone dies or loses signal?
Cloud-protected alarms and Safety Backed reminders register a deadline with our servers. If safety backup was armed successfully, it can alert your contacts when no response arrives, including when your phone is offline. Device-only check-ins have no server backup. Delivery is not guaranteed, so keep another safety plan.
Do my contacts have to agree to this?
Yes. You must have their consent before designating them, and we recommend telling them exactly what alerts they'll receive and what you'd like them to do. Contacts who don't want alerts can decline your request or contact us to be removed.
Does WellAlert call 911 or emergency services?
No. WellAlert alerts the people you choose. It is not a medical device, not a monitoring service, and does not contact emergency services on your behalf. In a life-threatening emergency, always call your local emergency number first.
Is alert delivery guaranteed?
No system can promise that. Delivery depends on things outside anyone's control: network coverage, device settings, notification permissions. That's why WellAlert uses push and in-app alerts, offers server-side safety backup for protected check-ins, and gives you a test alert feature. Keep an alternative safety plan, and see our Terms for the full disclaimer.
Location & privacy
Who can see my location?
Nobody, unless you turn location sharing on. It's off by default, and only the contacts you select can see your shared location, which you can stop at any time in the app or in iOS Settings. Separately, the Home screen's local weather (on by default) also uses your location to look up conditions. That reading is never shared with your contacts, and you can turn it off with the weather chip in Settings.
Do you sell my data or show ads?
Never. WellAlert has no ads, and we do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. Wellness and location data are treated as sensitive: encrypted in transit and at rest, never shared with advertisers or data brokers. Details in our Privacy Policy.
Can I attach photos or voice notes to a wellness check-in?
Not in the current release. Wellness check-ins support a score, mood icon, and text note. Media attachments are planned for a future version and are not part of the current product.
How do I delete my account and data?
You can delete your account directly in the app's settings at any time. We delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where the law requires longer retention. You can also request a copy of your data; see the Privacy Policy.
Pricing & availability
What's free, and what's Premium?
Free includes unlimited device-only alarms and reminders, up to 3 cloud-protected alarms, 3 Safety Backed reminders, and 3 Care Circle contacts. Premium raises the protection limits to 25 alarms and 25 reminders, supports up to 25 contacts, and includes unlimited shared wellness check-ins and history. Alarms require iOS 26+; reminders are available on iOS 17+. Pricing is shown in the app at purchase.
How do I cancel a subscription?
Subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store, so you cancel in your Apple ID settings (Settings โ your name โ Subscriptions). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
When does WellAlert launch, and on what devices?
WellAlert launches first on iPhone and requires iOS 17 or later. Check-in alarms require iOS 26 or later; reminders provide one-time safety check-ins on earlier supported iOS versions. An Android version is planned. Join the waitlist for launch updates.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. Android is planned after the iOS launch, and waitlist subscribers will be the first to hear when it's ready.
Remember: WellAlert is a supplemental safety tool, not an emergency service. In a life-threatening emergency, always call your local emergency number first.
