Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know before trusting WellAlert with your check-ins. Still curious? We're happy to help.

Getting started

What is WellAlert?

WellAlert is a personal safety net for people who live alone, travel solo, or just want backup. You set check-in alarms; when one fires, you tap to confirm you're fine. If you don't respond, WellAlert automatically alerts the people you trust — by push notification, email, and in-app alert — with your status and, if you choose, your location.

No wearables. No monitoring center. Just your phone and your people.

How do check-in alarms work?

Schedule alarms around your routine — mornings, hikes, night shifts, first dates, solo trips. Each alarm has a response window. When it fires, one tap confirms you're okay; you can add a mood, note, photo, or voice memo for context. If the window passes with no response, escalation begins automatically.

Can I test it before relying on it?

Yes — and you should. WellAlert includes a test alert feature so you can confirm your setup works on your device and that your contacts actually receive alerts. We recommend running a test after you add contacts and periodically after that.

Is there an age requirement?

Yes. WellAlert is for adults — you must be at least 18 (or the age of majority in your region, whichever is greater). See our Terms & Conditions for details.

Contacts & alerts

Do my emergency contacts need the app?

No. Contacts receive email alerts even without WellAlert installed. If they do install it and accept your contact request, they also get push notifications, in-app alerts, and — if you share it — your wellness status and location on a map.

What happens when I miss a check-in?

When your response window closes without a check-in, WellAlert notifies the contacts you selected with your status, the time of the missed check-in, and — if you've enabled sharing — your last known location. You can cancel the escalation by checking in late, and your contacts are told you're okay.

What if my phone dies or loses signal?

Escalation runs on our servers, not just your phone. When an alarm is scheduled, the deadline is registered server-side; if no check-in arrives before it passes — even because your battery died — the alert to your contacts still goes out.

Do my contacts have to agree to this?

Yes — you must have their consent before designating them, and we recommend telling them exactly what alerts they'll receive and what you'd like them to do. Contacts who don't want alerts can decline your request, use the opt-out link in any message they receive, or contact us to be removed.

Does WellAlert call 911 or emergency services?

No. WellAlert alerts the people you choose — it is not a medical device, not a monitoring service, and does not contact emergency services on your behalf. In a life-threatening emergency, always call your local emergency number first.

Is alert delivery guaranteed?

No system can promise that. Delivery depends on things outside anyone's control — network coverage, device settings, notification permissions. That's why WellAlert sends alerts over multiple channels, runs escalation server-side, and gives you a test alert feature. Keep an alternative safety plan for critical situations, and see our Terms for the full disclaimer.

Location & privacy

Who can see my location?

Nobody, unless you turn location sharing on — it's off by default, and we don't even request location permission until you enable it. When on, only the contacts you explicitly select can see your location, and you can stop sharing at any time in the app or in iOS Settings.

Do you sell my data or show ads?

Never. WellAlert has no ads, and we do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. Wellness and location data are treated as sensitive: encrypted in transit and at rest, never shared with advertisers or data brokers. Details in our Privacy Policy.

Where are my photos and voice notes stored?

Media you attach to wellness entries — photos, videos, voice memos — stays on your device. It is not uploaded to our servers.

How do I delete my account and data?

You can delete your account directly in the app's settings at any time. We delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where the law requires longer retention. You can also request a copy of your data — see the Privacy Policy.

Pricing & availability

What's free, and what's Premium?

The core safety loop is free: 2 check-in alarms, 3 emergency contacts, automatic escalation, and one-tap SOS. Premium unlocks unlimited alarms, up to 25 contacts, and richer check-ins. Pricing is shown in the app at purchase.

How do I cancel a subscription?

Subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store, so you cancel in your Apple ID settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

When does WellAlert launch, and on what devices?

WellAlert launches first on iPhone (iOS 17 or later). An Android version is planned. Join the waitlist and we'll email you the moment it's available.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet — Android is planned after the iOS launch. Waitlist subscribers will be the first to hear when it's ready.

Remember: WellAlert is a supplemental safety tool, not an emergency service. In a life-threatening emergency, always call your local emergency number first.
